Fasting - Day 1

November 13, 2017 | Keith Crain

Our 3-day fast has begun! How is it going for you so far? For me, I can skip breakfast occasionally and it does not really bother me. However, when I know I am fasting that seems to not be the case. Hunger sets in early, but I am trying to take the mindset of every time I feel hunger for food, I should be hungering for God.

Yesterday morning Pastor Mark shared Psalms 63:1 “You, God, are my God, earnestly I seek you; I thirst for you, my whole being longs for you, in a dry and parched land where there is no water. I love this verse and want this week to be a week of wanting more longing and thirsting for God!

For those of you that have not yet experienced a Chasing God week, you will soon discover why it is so powerful. Every year, amazing things happen each and every day through the extended times of worship that set the stage for the great speakers and opportunities for powerful ministry and incredible life change.

Today, I would ask you to join me in praying for the speakers. Please pray for Kevin Clark, who will be kicking off Chasing God on Wednesday night. Kevin is the lead pastor of the Vineyard Community Church in Lexington, KY. He has spoken several times at our Vineyard Church and has been incredible. Joe and Janice Wood will be here on Thursday and Friday evening. Joe is the Senior Pastor and Janice is the Pastor of Discipleship at the Vineyard Community Church in Richmond, KY. I have had the opportunity to hear them both speak and they are fantastic! And finally, Geno Olison will be here on Saturday night. Geno comes to us from the South Suburban Vineyard near Chicago. I am looking forward to hearing all our speakers.

I want to leave you with a final thought. Sometime today read Isaiah 58, this is a great description of the posture our hearts should take during our fast. Staring in verse 11 it says, "The Lord will guide you always; he will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land and will strengthen your frame. You will be like a well-watered garden, like a spring whose waters never fail.”

Let’s go after that this week!
