Uganda Fall Update #3

September 11, 2017

Hello praying friends and family,

Today was another very fulfilling and full day! It’s amazing to see that after just a few short days of being together our team is bonding and serving very effectively together. Our morning began with a devotion from Candace, followed by an incredible morning worship service with our hosts from YWAM (Youth with a Mission). It was the kind of service that most of us arrived to in sweatshirts and jackets and by the end, had shed our layers and traded them for our first layer of sweat for the day. The worship and prayer time was incredible and a great way to start our morning. Following the service, the team split for the day to continue chipping away at the many tasks we have for the week.

The three gentlemen from our team (Clint, Steve, and Marc) headed to the market in hopes of purchasing supplies for lighting in the dorms and to install gutters to collect rain water on a few of the existing Dreamland buildings. Water is not always in supply at the refugee camp and collecting rainwater in cisterns will help to better meet this basic need for the staff and children of the Dreamland. Keep in mind that shopping at the market in Uganda is not like your average trip to Lowe’s or Home Depot back in the states. It can take hours to track down the correct supplies and find the shop with the best quality and price. They were also able to purchase many tools to restock the storehouse at the Dreamland (to keep on hand for basic repairs) and also a generator. Following their time at the market, they were also able to go and visit the oldest boys at boarding school and get a tour of the grounds.

The ladies loaded up art supplies and headed out to the Refugee Camp for another full day of working on the Children’s Art Projects. The drive out to the camp can be long, bumpy and quite taxing, but today was quite the opposite.

Today’s ride was full of sharing with one another our journeys of following Christ and simply getting to know one another a little better. Each testimony shared personally ministered to many others in the vehicle and left us even more in awe of the God we serve. The children were eagerly awaiting our arrival and we were once again met by beaming smiles, hugs, handshakes, and the familiar greeting of “you are welcome.” In addition to working on the art project, Rose and Candace are taking photos of each child that will pair with their individual art. The day passed by quickly and we were able to get many more of the projects and photos completed.

It is so good to see the children again and to watch each team member connect with them in a new and unique way. I loved watching Michelle pray for each hand that she traced and listening to Hannah’s gentle instruction in helping the children by calling them “hun.” Candace, Rose, and Karen all inspired and awed us with their stories of God’s faithfulness in their lives. Sweet Katie turns into a powerful weapon for the Kingdom when she teaches the children. It will certainly be difficult to leave the children at the end of the week, but it is quite clear that God is watching out for them and providing for all their needs.

Tomorrow is another busy day of working on art projects more with the children and installing the gutters at the camp.

Thank you so very much for your continued prayers, as we seek to be a blessing in the name of Jesus and look after our friends.

Christie
